Where Do You Start to Create a “10” Body?
You don’t start with the scales. For so many years, the scales and those dreaded “calories” ruled my life. Oh such miserable days those were. Every morning was a new week beginning a new diet. Eating was not even fun. The scales actually became my enemy. They dictated the joy or sadness of my day right at the beginning and they whispered to me all day long.
Praise the Lord Jesus for setting me free over over 25 years ago, when I put the scales in the back of the closet and refused to listen to their call.
How did I do this? I’ve been thinking about this a lot the past few weeks as I read more and more about “Mindsets”. The very key to my breakthrough has come in pieces here and there, but can be traced back to this very word “Mindset”.
My Mindset changed……..a little bit at first…….then the new mindset began to become rooted in me. It became me.
The mindset that ruled me back in the early days after college was all about calories and scales: “What is the best diet, how can I possibly lose those extra pounds?” They really weren’t even very many. (You may have realized it only takes a few to burden your heart as these did mine.) These few pounds can easily become more and more if the toxic thinking continues and the old mindset becomes stronger and stronger. Mine did for a while.
In 1978, I was introduced to a wellness company named Shaklee. This company provided me avenues to begin learning about health. The more I learned, the more intrigued I became. Yes, for sure, I wanted to be healthy as well as fit….but had I realized this?
Fast forward the years. Abundant health became my focus. Fabulous fitness became my reward. My mindset changed from: “How much do I weigh and how many calories is in that food?” to “What can I do and eat to be the healthiest me I can?”
Another Cementing Block
In 2013 another cementing block came as I learned about Crossfit and Paleo eating. Crossfit combined cardio and strength training. It was challenging for sure, but it was fun. God used my enrollment to inspire a crossfit class for those over 50 at our particular gym (box as called in Crossfit). That class has now grown to 12, including my husband John.
John and I began some private ballroom dance lessons in 2014 to prepare for a waltz at our 50th anniversary. We still take lessons and are so very blessed by dancing. It is the most fun of all exercise to us.
Crossfit introduced me to Paleo eating. Click here to see Why I like Paleo so much. I saw the Paleo eating lifestyle in agreement with my desire to eat whole foods. Actually, this way of eating is more than healthy. It is delicious, fun, and has totally freed me from fear of calories and weight.
Yes, my mindset changed. I could care less about calories. My question is: Is it healthy? Is this a food God created or has it been processed and chemically laden? Is it going to be medicine to my body or is it going to be poison? What other treasure foods can I find?

Dr. Caroline Leaf says it this way: “We need to rewire our brain.” We need to melt every toxic thought and replace it with thoughts good and pure and lovely and of a good report. We need to find out just what the MAD (Modern American Dieting) is doing to destroy us. Food can be credit or debit….adding to our health or subtracting from our health. Debbie Abbott says it this way: “Food is medicine. Food is poison.” Which thoughts are you thinking and which foods are you choosing?
I would love to hear your comments on where you think your mindset is right now.
Wishing you two blessings for every trouble,
